fashioned by Salvador Dali

Member way back when, when i bitched about the dentist? Well deja fricking vu to you too, sir. Well, the first time, the crown looked like it was fashioned by Salvador Dali - a hashished out version of Dali at that - rather than a professional crown tooth making person or whatever they’re called. Really Alternative Operating Systems

Let’s get the obvious out of the way from the outset - Microsoft is the absolute epitome of evil - they boil little children in hydrochloric acid, torture puppies and feed kittens to their blood sucking hell hounds. All are undeniable facts, but let’s not dwell too deeply on Microsoft the company; what about their bad operating system, Windows? (more…)

Managing and protecting PDAs is a growing challenge

Managing and protecting PDAs is a growing challenge??”for users and particularly for IT managers who support mobile workers. Personal and business data can be compromised if PDAs fall into the wrong hands. And hackers pride themselves on discovering back doors??”unsecured entries to systems. (more…)

Media mega merger

This morning i overslept, so i got to work at 10am. In order to work 8 hours (with half-hour lunch), I stayed until 6:30. There were certain benefits to this schedule. First off, Mike the tech took the 400MB hard drive from my computer and replaced it with a 4GB drive. Together with the other hard drive, my computer now weighs in at a hefty 5.1 Gigabytes! I also made my work area a bit more feng-shui by moving some lighting from the workbench that is used as a shelf to the workbench that is actually used as a workbench. Tomorrow we have a meeting and we have to turn in the survey they gave us. The survey has questions like “of the tasks you do name 3 of your strengths and weaknesses”, “what do you like least about working here”, “what do you like best about working here”… I really don’t wan’t to respond to these loaded questions… who would? Oh well…

I had a media overdose today. On my lunch break, I bought the new Official PlayStation Magazine (with the demo disk that i haven’t played yet) and i heard a radio interview with a sportscaster from New York. On my way home, they replayed the same interview. Then when I got home, my new Wired Magazine had arrived in the mail (i haven’t opened it yet). Then I got a call from my friend who is hosting a Halloween Party. We ended up instant messaging later and he informed me of a group called atmosphere from the Twin Cities and a place where you can hear samples of their music (not bad hmm… maybe i’ll get their next album when it comes out on the 23rd). Of course every new magazine has plenty of links to check out, like this weird flash game or this bizarre ninja site (i dig the remixed song on this page)… I’ve got a survey to fill out ….

Weekend update

Here’s an amuzing way to waste a bunch of time (especially if you got that wacky dial-up). *make sure your speakers are turned on. eboy.com, j-station, linkdup, 777run (hit him in the heart, and go to downtown L.A., you gotta love it) j-station has a good links (liens) page to further destroy precious time. I’m Sacramento Kings fan and an NBA fan

First things first: I’m a Sacramento Kings fan and an NBA fan. Kings fan supercedes NBA fan. Translation: By default, I hate the Lakers. Now, I know that Kobe Bryant is one of the best current and all-time players, but he’s on the Lakers which is reason enough to dislike him, but the potential lawsuit seems like a pile of excrement and I expect to find out that this girl is just trying to make some money off the guy. So I’m sure he’ll be playing alongside his ogre teammate, Shreq Shaq this season and new cohorts Karl Malone (going to L.A. for a chance at an NBA Title) and Gary ‘the Glove’ Payton (if they sign which they almost certainly will) which means 4 future hall-of-famers in the starting line-up (plus future hall-of-famer coach Phillip Jackson).
This is pretty daunting and scary (monumental? maybe. maybe not). Karl and Shaq and the Glove (in that order) are getting a bit old (especially Karl but guys in the NBA half his age aren’t in that great of shape). They most likely won’t run as much as Sac or Dallas, but they’ll have a wise-old offense. The back-court defense of Bryant and Payton is tough and the interior will be Shaq (tough) and Karl (weaker by the season, yet wise and very, very old). Still pretty scary.
Malone will supposedly continue to wear jersey number 32 even though it’s Magic Johnson’s retired number. Analog Panda suggests wearing jersey number 12 and daisy-duke shorts to honor his former point-guard teammate John Stockton.
For pictures of past Kings vs. Lakers action, go here. In other NBA news… sources close to analogpanda (me and my wife) are reporting that the San Antonio Spurs stand-out point guard, Tony Parker, has been doubling as the team’s mascot.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

So I’m watching television and I see a commercial for a movie called “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” and I think to my self that it looks pretty interesting. Although it looks like an X-Men knock-off (not that it matters, as I haven’t seen either x-men movie or felt compelled to see them) for some reason this movie looks good. Maybe I don’t like the way that so many people seem to get too giddy over the X-men movie (hell, I collected X-men comic books twelve years ago, you’d think I might be more than mildly interested, because I AM mildly interested) but this was the first time I had heard of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen so it wasn’t overkill. Only time will tell if I end up watching either movie!

From Geeks to Dragons

Today was very eventful, in a work sort of way. I went through the imaging process and the application deployment processes with the IT workers here in Taiwan today. I have to admit, I was really very impressed with the questions that they asked about it. I thought that it would be harder to get to the technical meat of the subject because of the language barrier. I was wrong - they asked some amazingly detailed questions. I liked that. It seemed to me like they’re really interested in learning how the whole process works, not just ???oh, that’s how we do it.??? Very cool. (more…)

Holy Crap

Raymond Chen, a Microsoft blogger, and probably one of the smartest guys around when it comes to the inner workings of Windows, as well as programming in general (IMHO), wrote a blog entry about my LonghornBlogs article on removing 16-bit support from Windows. I’ve been watching Raymond’s blog for a while now, and when he speaks, I pretty much sit back and listen.
