Logitech Z-2300 ROCKS!
Anyway, since Christmas I had been looking for a new set of speakers (since my old ones were pretty bad). I looked at the Logitech Z-640 5.1-channel speaker system, but it wasn’t as powerful (only 80W RMS). Plus, I didn’t need surround sound since I don’t have any material for that kind of stuff. So, I finally found these after the REALLY GOOD review on CNET.com on them. I first bought them for about $115 at one store first, but then they cancelled my order because they didn’t have any stock, even though on their site it said it was available and in-stock. (more…)

Ultima Online
When Ultima Online first came out, my brother-in-law [no longer married to the Sis, but still her baby’s daddy so really still my bro-in-law] anyways, we went halves on the game and the monthly subscription. It was so hard to get ahead in the game. Rather than blazing adventures fighting evil monsters and forging alliances with other players I toiled pathetically with my fishing pole. Alone. Trying to catch enough fish to sell to scrape up some money to buy better weapons. I then advanced to killing small wildlife and attempting to sell the fur. It was a sad existence. Many times I would wander into the forest and become dead after meeting with bigger wildlife or monsters. When you are killed in the game you instantly become a ghost, leaving behind your body and possesions and you couldn’t interact with the environment too much besides going to the church to be resurrected. It was amazing how you could seem so isolated while being brutally assaulted by a monster, but as soon as you were killed three dozen players magically appear and loot your sorry corpse of all the measly possesions you fished so hard for. I guess I just wasn’t cut out for that game.

iPod-less
I am officially iPod-less. I have no iPod. It’s dead. The drive died. How can I possibly listen to my music now? I can’t afford a new one right now. $400. Gone. Well, at least I am getting $75 for it (iPodMods.com is buying it from me AS-IS from me). And plus, the 20 GB iPods now are only $300 ($100 less than what they used to be before the price drops). But for now, I can’t listen to my music except for on my PowerBook - and I can’t fit that in my pocket. (more…)

NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL
I heard a commercial on the radio the other day and I don’t remember what they were advertising, but they mentioned something about “the five major sports”. Now I was thinking to myself “okay, NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, and… uh… and…”. I couldn’t decide if it was nascar or golf or bass fishing or the discus. But today I think I found the answer. If you have broadband and some speakers, go here and click the “The Zen Of Rock Paper Scissors” link.

Very Important Question
What is the difference between a dork, a geek and a nerd?
1. A dork is someone who is completely and hopelessly socially inept. This person always wears mismatched clothes, says the stupidest things possible at the worst possible moment and always falls in love with someone who would never acknowledge their existence, even if they were the last two people on the planet. Dork can also be a reference to male genitalia, but fell out of common use around 1987 or so. (more…)

FireWire 800 Hard Drive
I am getting a new 200 GB FireWire 800 hard drive. It is the Other World Computing (OWC) Mercury Elite Pro FW 800/400 + USB 2.0/1.1 Combo hard drive. It has a large 8 MB buffer (2 MB is the standard for most drives) and the drive spins at 7200 RPM (which is standard). This hard drive will be extremely good for digital video obviously because of the super-fast speeds and connections. (more…)

Yesterday the boss gave me the file
Yesterday the boss gave me the file of the guy who is coming in tomorrow for consultation. I’m supposed to write the materials that the boss is going to use to train the guy, in other words. (Because heavens know, I’m not old enough to consult with the guy myself). I thought the other consultant was going to do this guy. WELL, so did he, because he just walked in, saw me with the file, cussed out everyone in sight, and grumbled off into his office.
Leaving me to ponder…I spent six years in higher education for this?

Kaiser Permanente
I don’t have any recollection of acquiring it - maybe my wife got it somewhere, or maybe it’s my sister’s, but i noticed that we have a chip clip. The plain fact that we have a chip clip doesn’t surprise me too much. The fact that the chip clip is sporting the Kaiser Permanente logo… now that’s just bizzare. A chip clip with the name of a hospital on it?? That’s like saying. “Hey, as long as we’re giving away some free knick-knack (or nicknack, nic-nac? or bricabrack or whatever the fuck).. we might as well be giving away something that’s going to bring people back. Everybody gives away refrigerator magnets or pens or calculators. But what could we give to people that will draw their business??? Powdered anthrax is too obvious, guns? knives? - nope, Jolt Cola: probably not a good idea… How ’bout we encourage the consumption of potatoe (Dan Quayle was hear) chips!!! Of course!!”
I wouldn’t doubt if the clips were used to bundle promotional materials and given away at a convention, thus covertly infiltrating a household disguised as a harmless oversized binder-clip but ending up as up as a chip clip. And an idle chip clip just serves as a reminder to buy more chips. Truly evil marketing genius. This is why the chip clip is perhaps the most deadly weapon in the world.

Gross
So I’m at the game and there’s this guy walking around who obviously thought he was pretty cool. He was wearing a golf shirt that had a zipper instead of the three buttons. Well, he had the zipper undone all the way and there’s this massive tuff of hair sticking out of the opening. Actually, it wasn’t just a tuff of hair, it was like a whole head of hair. (more…)
