Sleep Is For Chumps

It’s quarter to four in the morning here, and I’m wide awake. I got about 3 hours of sleep so far, and have to get up in 2. This is going to be a fun day.

So, let’s talk about some stuff that’s happened so far, since I’ve got nothing better to do (and obviously - if you’re reading this - neither do you). I’m in Seattle Washington for Microsoft’s annual MVP Summit, but that you already knew. Yesterday night (er… the night of the 3rd), I had the pleasure of attending a Geek Dinner with Robert Scoble (pic) over at Eric Ewing’s house. There were a whole bunch of other geeks there, mostly members of INETA, and DonXML, who’s blog I honestly don’t read, but have always wanted to start (subscribed, Don). I’ve never been to geek dinner before, it was really very cool. I’m thinking about starting a geek dinner / blogger dinner in Madison. Would anyone be interested?

After the party, we went to the bar in the W hotel. The W is an awesome place - it’s very post-modern. The hallways are all blue. I’ll post pictures later, since I can’t describe it in any way that makes sense. So yeah, at the bar. Another great opportunity to meet people, like DataGrid Girl (subscribed, Marie), Scott Watermasysk (who wrote .TEXT) and a few other people who’s names I can’t remember right now. And I got really drunk, which is always a good ice breaker. Hilarity ensued, apparently.

Today, I woke up at noon - which I was absolutely convinced was 11:00 AM, and I’ll hear nothing that tells me I’m wrong. I hate you, Daylight Savings Time. Scoble and some other people (like Robert McLaws - Robert, I really do read your blog, I promise) met up in the lobby of the Wyndam for a walk through downtown Seattle. We walked down to the Pier, and through the open market, which was a lot of fun. I really dig hanging out with fellow geeks. Robert was telling me about a totally awesome project he’s working on called Visual Blogger. Definitely a killer app.

After that, we went to the Convention Center for the welcome reception for all the MVPs. It was a nice event, with an awesome video (I FEEL GREAT!!!! YEEEAAAAAHHHH!) - I hope they put that up in a public location. I would love to link to it. There was a drawing for people to enter to win SPOT watches. I actually won, so now I’ve got me some SPOT watch lovin’. I’m still getting used to how the whole thing works, but it’s pretty cool. I considered buying one a while ago, but the price and the lack of an SDK made me decide not to. I met Keith …. somebody, who is the Product Manager for MSN Direct, and told him about why I didn’t buy one. He said that they are actually working on an SDK for the watches, but there are some real technological problems that they have to overcome because of the way data gets to the watch. He also put some other concerns that I have to rest, which is totally awesome. I can’t wait to really get into this thing.

This looks to be a really good week.
