SARS Shmars
I am so sick and tired of hearing about SARS. SARS, SARS, SARS, SARS, SARS. Geez, it almost makes you wish the war in Iraq was still going on so “journalists” will have something to talk about. My rant on “journalists” and “news” will come soon I’m sure.
There’s been like 20 deaths from SARS and you’d think this was the Black Plague all over again! Bring out your dead! 20 people? Death is never something to sneer at but why are they talking about it 23 of the 24 hours in a day! I’m sure more people die from an infected hangnail, tripping down the stairs, or something stupid like chocking on a piece of plastic fork. There was a snowstorm in Calgary yesterday and three people died from shovelling. THREE PEOPLE! In one day! Better call the international “news media”! Everyone better run to Home Hardware and buy an electric snowblower! Maybe the WHO should send out a warning for travellers not to go to Calgary and shovel snow. Unbelievable.
I can understand that people get all freaked out but at least get informed! If you are uninformed, you deserve to get all freaked out so you can’t sleep peacefully at night. Check out the graphs of the infection rates around the world: SARS Infection Rates Notice that in ALL cases, the rate of infection is going down, down, down. Both in China and Hong Kong (the worst cases), the new probable cases per day have gone way down (below 5 in Hong Kong). That’s just probable…not confirmed new cases. Also, remember that China hasn’t even done anything until recently to try and contain it.
The news media jumps on the latest thing and scares the crap out of people. Last year it was West Nile Virus (which is coming back again in the limelight) and this year it’s SARS. I just can’t stand that the “news” doesn’t report the news at all. They jump on something new, make sure that it stays in people’s minds and “report” it to death.
