End of the McNealy Rein
Scott McNealy, one of the founders of Sun Microsystems in 1982 has been CEO since 1986. Due to financial woes within the last quarter, Scott decided to give his power up to Jonathan Schwartz, but remain the chairman. An estimated 200+ million dollars of revenue was lost in the last quarter, mostly due to acquisitng, R&D, and subsidizing costs spent to reshape the massively employeed 48,000 person company. Sun also started the Try and Buy program with their 8,000-15,000 dollar CoolThreads T2000 and T100 SPARCv9 models, which probably cost them a lot as well. (more…)
